I loved art as a child but did not pursue it as a profession. In my 40’s during a family trip to Rome we went to the Sistine Chapel. I fell in love with Michelangelo’s frescoes of the Sibyls - the ancient Greek prophetesses. I had packed a Walgreen’s sketchpad and one of the kids’ boxes of colored pencils and tried to recreate the lovely Delphic oracle. I fell into that creative zone of focus and joy and have practiced my craft since then.
I live in Falls Creek neighborhood and have enjoyed painting its creeks, hills, and wild hyacinths since 1998. Our two grandchildren provide me the impetus for portrait painting. And in the last few years I have discovered the freedom of painting the waterlily reflections in Bass Lake on the Moses Cone Estate in North Carolina. In August 2024, I participated in the BRAHM’s annual plein air exhibition(Blowing Rock Art and History Museum) and sold the two paintings I entered. I work in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor and pastel.
I joined the AGA several years ago after my long-time friend, Kathie Sauer, invited me to the annual Anchorage Artist Showcase. I enjoy the camaraderie and the various events AGA sponsors throughout the year. And though I have not met all of you, I welcome each of you to visit my home studio.
